So on today’s Dr. Oz Show, it was about The #1 Reason You’re Exhausted! He talked about why many people are exhausted from day to day. And what was that reason? The lack of Magnesium in the diet. Dr. Oz said that studies have shown that between 68-75% of American adults are magnesium deficient. (That’s a lot!) Now I personally take a magnesium-calcium pill every day, but I also have my diet in check. So what did Dr. Oz recommend?
Dr. Oz on Magnesium
Magnesium is widely available in different foods, especially green vegetables, cereals, and fruits. Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of magnesium for young adults is around 400 mg/day for men and 310 mg/day for women. For adults over 30, the RDA is 420 mg/day for men and 320 mg/day for women. (Now this may not be a lot, but too many people don’t get this because of the foods they eat). It’s easy to see how much magnesium is in the foods your eating by downloading the app MyFitnessPal. This is something you can use to quickly check out the nutrition of the foods you are eatting.
If you can’t get at least 300-400mg of Magnesium from the foods you eat per day, you can add a magnesium supplement to your diet. This is something I do as well. Magnesium supplements are really quite inexpensive. I take the Twinlab 400mg one and it’s only $9.99!
